Dear Quizalize User,

We want to provide you with essential information regarding forthcoming Google Workspace for Education policy adjustments that could influence your students' access to Quizalize via school-administered Google credentials after October 23, 2023. To ensure your Quizalize experience remains uninterrupted, we encourage you to review the following information.

Who Is Affected?

If your school or district employs school-administered Google accounts for students under the age of 18, and these accounts are used for accessing Quizalize, this change will impact you. This applies to all users, irrespective of the Quizalize subscription or plan held by your school or district.

Note: These changes do not affect you if your school or district does not use school-administered Google credentials for student logins or if your students are over 18 years old.

What's Changing?

Starting October 23, 2023, Google Workspace for Education is modifying its privacy settings. Users under 18 will no longer be able to log in to Quizalize using their school-administered Google credentials without action from a Google Workspace administrator.

What Do You Need to Do?

  • Teachers & Administrators: To ensure a seamless experience for your students, it's vital that your school or district designates Quizalize as a trusted application within Google Workspace for Education.

We encourage you to share the information in this Help Center article with your school or district's IT department to facilitate the process of allowing students to access Quizalize with their school-administered Google credentials. Only the Google Workspace for Education administrator can designate Quizalize as a trusted app.

  • Google Workspace for Education Administrators: As an administrator, you play a crucial role in ensuring uninterrupted access for all Google Workspace for Education users. Here's how you can mark Quizalize as a trusted app:

1. Log in to your Google Workspace for Education admin account.

2. Navigate to the Admin console and click on 'Security.'

3. In the Security menu, select 'API Controls.'

4. Under 'Third-party apps,' click on 'Manage third-party access.'

5. Click on the '+ Trusted' button and search for 'Quizalize.'

6. Select Quizalize from the search results and click on 'Add.'

You will have successfully added Quizalize as a trusted app, safeguarding access for all Google Workspace for Education users.

What Happens If You Take No Action?

If no action is taken, starting October 23, 2023, users under 18 will not be able to sign in to Quizalize using their school-administered Google credentials. However, if, for some reason, your admin can’t set Quizalize as a trusted application, then you can still use Quizalize with your class! Simply create a new class and, when doing this, have students sign in with a Quizalize student account instead of a Google account. If you do this, the first time a student goes to zzi.sh to take a quiz in this new class, the student will be invited to enter an email address and password to create a Quizalize student account. Note they will need to remember the password they choose for future sessions!

FAQs: Google Workspace for Education Policy Changes

What if I don't use Google Workspace for Education? Will this affect me?

If your school or district doesn't employ Google Workspace for Education, these adjustments won't impact you. Your students can still access Quizalize as they always have without any disruptions.

Will my students lose access to Quizalize due to Google's policy change?

No, you and your students won't lose access to Quizalize. If you or your students encounter difficulties logging in with school-administered Google credentials, alternative sign-in methods can be used. We recommend reaching out to your school or district administrators and underscoring the significance of Quizalize, urging them to designate it as a trusted app.

How can I confirm if my district or school recognizes Quizalize as a 'trusted' application in Google?

Reach out to your Google Workspace for Education administrator to verify Quizalize's trusted status. Please note that Quizalize cannot validate your privacy settings within Google Workspace for Education. If, after October 23, 2023, students can't log in with their school-administered Google credentials, liaise with your IT department to discuss designating Quizalize as trusted. In the meantime, students can still engage in quizzes and lessons via an internet browser without signing in using their school-administered Google credentials.

Does Quizalize adhere to my state and district's data privacy and protection requirements?

Certainly, Quizalize places a strong emphasis on data privacy and aligns with federal safety and privacy regulations such as the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). We are committed to complying with data privacy standards for different states, including some of the most stringent, such as CA, TX, and NY. We provide resources and guidelines for privacy agreements tailored to each state, ensuring adherence.

Who can assist me in addressing this matter within my school or district?

Google Workspace holds exclusive permissions for Education administrators to review and confirm access settings for Quizalize within the Google Admin Console. These permissions are not granted to teachers. If you're unsure about your Google Workspace for Education administrator, consider reaching out to the individual who provided your username, a member of your IT department or help desk, or the person responsible for managing your email service or website.

Will Quizalize be available solely as an app moving forward?

No, Quizalize is maintaining its accessibility methods. Students can always participate in quizzes and lessons via an internet browser without signing in using their school-administered Google credentials. This accessibility remains unchanged.

If my school or district doesn't grant trusted status to Quizalize within Google, can I still use Quizalize?

Absolutely, you can continue using Quizalize. The absence of 'trusted' status simply means students won't be able to sign in using their school-administered Google credentials. However, they can always access quizzes and lessons without these credentials. In case your school or district has reservations concerning data privacy, Quizalize offers district-level data privacy and security measures to meet your specific requirements. To explore state and district-specific signed SDPAs, your IT department or another administrator can reach out to support@quizalize.com. We are well-prepared to meet student privacy requirements in some of the most rigorous states.

I use Quizalize on an individual account and not through a school and district account. Is any action required on my part?

These Google changes affect teachers who permit students to log in to Quizalize using their school-administered Google credentials. If you have an individual Quizalize account and employ Google for student logins, kindly share this support article with your IT department to request they designate Quizalize as trusted, ensuring uninterrupted student login access.
